The LACCDR project is a collaborative effort sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) that aims to engage community-based organizations in providing leadership and partnership to promote community resilience in the face of public health emergencies such as pandemics and disasters.

Community Resilience is the capacity of the community as a whole to prepare for, respond to and recover from adverse events and unanticipated crises that threaten the health of all. 

Key Goal:
Develop an active network of community agencies that work consistently with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH) and the Emergency Network of Los Angeles (ENLA) to develop resilience in communities in the context of public health disasters. 

  • Describe how LACDPH and community agencies define and approach community resilience and engage local communities in building resilience
  • Develop partnerships to support community resilience in Los Angeles County
  • Identify ways or strategies to  strengthen LACDPH, ENLA and community agency capacity and leadership to support community resilience

What We’re Doing:

  • Identify agencies currently working with the LACDPH or ENLA
  • Develop a common understanding of community resilience in the context of an emergency public health incident
  • Identify what agencies are doing, what leadership they could provide, and what it would take to build more resilient communities

Through community organization meetings; surveys; discussion groups

Our Hope for the Future:

  • To strengthen the network of community agencies working together with Department of Public Health and ENLA to better serve and strengthen disaster resilience of local communities.
  • To develop effective approaches, such as messages and outreach, to support resilience.
